Personal Note
Dearest reader,
Thank you so much for trusting me enough to tell you this amazing story about a boy named Jacob who became Michael. It is a story of transformation that all readers can understand and appreciate.
I love it that you are here.
The greatest joy I've received as a writer is the chance to tell my stories and how I interpret the world around me. I have lived as a bi-sexual since I can remember and it is through creating stories like this one that I am able to fully express my innermost self. I tried my very best to write this story in such a way that every person could read it and understand intimately the struggles the main character faces. Love works the same for everyone, be they gay, straight, bisexual, queer, lesbian, transgender, etc. Love is what binds everyone on this planet together.
This book is about the potential in all of us to rise above ourselves and be what we've always wanted to be. Yes, the main character has supernatural powers, but it is the choices he makes that makes this story special. The sexual tensions and scenes in this book have been written with the utmost attempt to be truly passionate and caring. The bond between the three characters - Joey, Rebecca and Michael is a real bond and I hope you enjoy their friendship, their love for each other and their desire.
This book has been written for you the reader. I hope my written word captivates you and in some small way enriches your life and your personal journey. If you like this book I would humbly ask you to leave a positive feedback.

Prologue
A rumbling sound began to shake the nearly dormant and empty tunnels under Treyton Nuclear Site that one Charles Hendricks was working in. Now, normally, he wouldn't have worried, some rumbling down in the tunnels was normal but the ever-increasing rumbling and shaking within the tunnels of the Treyton that day, with its decaying and aging tunnel walls, started to shake violently causing Charles, a maintenance worker for Treyton, to look up suddenly in alarm.
Just as he started to back off down the tunnel - towards the exit - a beam fell out of nowhere behind him cutting off his escape. “Ahh!” Charles yelled as he lost his balance and fell headlong into a nearby wall.
Smashing his head into the steel wall, knocking him out for several minutes. When he came to, he could feel it spinning even as he looked down to see the steel beam that had fallen on top of him - pinning his leg to the ground. It was most certainly broken, and the sizable hole torn in the pant leg of his radiation suit presented its own batch of problems.
Suddenly, Charles was laughing. The fact that he was worried about radiation poisoning when he was sitting trapped on the floor by a large beam with most assuredly a concussion and broken leg - at least - was laughable. Then he suddenly looked at the steel beam trapping his leg again and his concussed brain was inexplicably confused by the phenomenon he had been laughing about seconds ago.
When did that fall? Charles wondered even as his head screamed at him in pain. He put his hand to his head before pulling it back as he felt something wet. Looking at his hand he saw copious amounts of blood and could be assured it was a free-flowing wound. I'm sure a rescue crew is on the way. Only a matter of time. He thought this to himself even as he fought his heavy eyelids. He knew he needed to stay awake, knew that falling asleep with such a head injury was dangerous.
But he was so tired - perhaps he would just shut his eyes for a few moments. Yes, that's it just shut his eyes, not sleep, until the rescuers arrived. Charles’ eyes slowly started to close until he could have been sleeping. However, when the rescuers finally made it to where he had been trapped; they would discover a lifeless body.
It was the death of maintenance worker Charles Hendricks that prompted a new ever vigilant task force to be assigned to the Treyton Nuclear Site. The school field trips were no longer booked, they were cancelled.
Most of them were, but, there were two schools where it was far too close to their assigned trips to cancel and get a refund. Surely a couple groups of high school seniors would be more than responsible enough to not get into any trouble...
Chapter 1: The Outsider
Jacob Russell had always been an outsider. He was the quiet, not necessarily shy but seldom interacted, the kid who often sat off in some distant corner — not because he was shy — but because he didn’t like people all that much.
His chosen wardrobe generally consisted of a pair of loose fitting jeans, often coming with a hole or two in the knees, a faded band tee and often a dark-colored hoodie. His outfit was only complimented by the curtains of dark brown hair hanging in his eyes. Jacob’s mother was always trying to convince him to cut his hair because it covered his gorgeous, piercing blue eyes — when he did allow them to be seen he often caught people staring at him; which only caused him to scowl and shake his hair back in his eyes.
As a particularly bright student and a bit of a nerd — Jacob also found himself the center of a fair amount of teasing and practical jokes. He had been shoved inside more lockers than he cared to admit.
In short, Jacob had learned that by isolating himself such incidents were lessened. Of course, by isolating himself he also started to get the reputation of being a loner and was never able to make any friends — let alone a girlfriend.
It was such that the day of the shared field trip between his school, Treyton High and the local charter school Tri-City Academy Jacob was surprised by certain feelings that stirred inside of him.
The trip was a bit of a historical outing, considering the name of their school, combined with a science trip to the nearby former nuclear weapons site. Having long since been decommissioned and abandoned given the incredibly high radioactive levels, Treyton nuclear site had recently made news again when several of the tunnels spreading out from the facility had collapsed.
Such as it was, the history and science teachers had decided the buzz surrounding the current event would prove an excellent teaching tool, which was how they had talked the school district into taking some senior classes' into accompanying an AP science class from the nearby charter school to the site.
Jacob would have been lying if he said he wasn't intrigued — but he was somewhat wary of having to go to be grouped with a bunch of kids who likely were just a group of snotty, spoiled brats.
However, he still presented himself on the day of the trip outside the bus and was handed his own protective suit just like the rest of his class. It was as he was inspecting the rest of his suit, sans helmet for the time being, for rips or holes he had to roll his eyes.
Somehow the science class containing Tyler Gandry had been chosen for the trip. This surprised Jacob immensely because he knew Tyler was not that bright and was in a lower levelled science class — well lower than his AP class.
He managed to avoid the jock and class bully by ducking behind a group of his classmates and getting on the bu
s before proceeding to the back of it as usual. He had been sitting in his corner quietly for all of 5 minutes when a shadow fell over him and he sighed looking up.
“What is it, Tyler?” He asked in his somewhat cracked voice, annoyed. He had hit a particularly interesting moment of puberty and his voice had decided it wasn't happy with his pitch just yet.
Tyler just smirked down at him, “Russell! If it isn't my favorite nerd!”
The larger teen sat down roughly in his seat next to Jacob as his friends sat around him — a couple of them shoving other students out of their seats to make room for themselves.
“Thought for sure you were too afraid to go visit Treyton, Russell.” Tyler jeered at him with a rough clap on his shoulder.
Jacob rolled his eyes and easily shoved Tyler’s hand off of his shoulder. “Never thought you'd have the brains to be allowed to come on such a dangerous trip Gandry. I mean, are you sure you understood everything they told us about monitoring the suits and putting them on properly?”
Jacob couldn't help but bite back at Tyler when he was surrounded by teachers and witnesses. He figured once they were back home he would pay for it, but it was worth it.
As expected, however, Tyler had been about to make a retort back when the supervising teachers called them to order. So instead of saying something much more than a growled threat of, “You'll pay for that, Russell” Tyler just glared at him.
After running over the various rules and safety procedures, the teachers instructed them to snap their helmets on since it would only take some 11 minutes, give or take, to reach Treyton site some 6.7 miles away.
Easily clicking his helmet into place, Jacob smirked and choked back a laugh as Tyler and his friends struggled with theirs. He had already noticed a seal that Tyler had missed when he put his suit on but hadn't felt like pointing it out to him. It was much more fun to watch as Mr. Anderson came back and had to fix the flaw in order for Tyler's helmet to click in properly.
Once everyone had put their helmets on and they had been checked for good seals and that the oxygen supply, approximately 5 hours of it, was flowing, the teachers sat down the bus lurched forward as it began to move.
Jacob stared out the window, ignoring Tyler completely, and watched as they moved through the city and then started to leave it far behind — replacing it with deserted and barren fields. The closer they got to Treyton, the more deserted it got. “Of course, radiation in the air and soil would do that.” Jacob thought as the outline of several buildings started to take shape in the distance as they neared the compound.
As the bus pulled in through the coded gate and turned around, Jacob spared a glance towards the front of the bus to see what his classmates were doing. Much to his chagrin many of them were bouncing in their seats in excitement. He blinked his eyes and stared back out through the window as the bus came to a stop.
As soon as the bus lurched to a stop Mr. Anderson stood up holding his hands up, palms out, towards the class.
“Settle down, settle down ladies and gentlemen. Everyone will get a chance to see everything we are here to see. Now, is everyone’s suits still connected properly? No leaks?” He waited a few moments as several people looked down at their suits then nodded. “Alright then. Everyone follow me, single file please and no pushing!”
He quickly hopped down the small steps to stand outside the bus as students began to file off. It was in the bustle of the mass exodus that Tyler somehow figured out which small cord was the mic for Jacob’s suit and pulled it out — severing the connection with the sharp tug Jacob attributed to being jostled around. Now he could hear what was said to him, but his suit would muffle any speech coming from him in such a way that one had to be right in front of him to understand.
Of course, being the quiet one, Jacob didn't notice as he remained silent standing and waiting to be led inside.
Once the teachers had each done a vague head count where half of the students hadn’t actually been counted, they nodded to another man dressed in a much fancier radiation suit who stepped forward.
“Hello Class, my name is Mr. Stevenson and I am the head of security here at Treyton.” The particularly tall, and stern looking man stared around at the various students for a moment. “I would like to go over a few ground rules before we get on with your tour.” He began as he pulled out a clipboard. “Now, as high school seniors, I expect you all know that there should be no horseplay or unnecessary risks taken while on these grounds, right?”
He paused for a moment, taking in each face for signs they weren’t taking things seriously. Jacob just looked bored and sighed, lightly, in relief as he began speaking again. “Next, and most importantly, no one is to wander off on their own. I don’t care how smart you are, as you may have heard we recently had some tunnels collapse and as such there are certain areas cordoned off for safety. Lastly, keep your ears, eyes, and minds open — you are about to see and learn some fascinating science!”
With that, he spun on his heels and began to lead the way towards a squat little building that served as an administration building. As they began to move, Jacob didn’t see the smirk spread across Tyler’s lips at the thought of the tunnels.

As they wandered through the deserted hallways, the groups from each school, Treyton High, and Tri-City Academy started to intermingle with one another. It was when they stopped for lunch in one of the sterilized and pressurized cafeteria that she walked up to him as Jacob sat in a corner by himself to eat. With jet-black hair falling down her back, in loose ringlets now that she could remove her helmet, for the time being, one of the girls from Tri-City Academy walked up to him. It was clear from the bit of collar poking up from underneath her suit that she was wearing some sort of uniform.
“Hey, can I sit there? Everywhere else is occupied or too noisy.”
She smiled softly at him as he looked up, originally thinking it was Tyler and intending to tell him to buzz off. However, when Jacob realized it wasn't Tyler he was momentarily awestruck and it took him a moment to mumble a response.
“I- uh ya of- of course. Feel free.”
As he spoke he moved his book bag off of the table and she sat down across from him.
“Thanks,” she replied sweetly, “I'm Rebecca- most people call me Becca or Becky, though,” she introduced herself, holding out a hand for him to shake. Jacob extended his own hand to shake hers and was pleasantly surprised to feel how warm her hand was even through the rubber glove of the suit.
“Jacob, most people call me - well Jacob. Feel free to call me whatever.” He smiled, a rare occurrence, softly at her as he picked up his other half of an egg salad sandwich and took a bite - chewing slowly. Once he had swallowed, finally, he lightly cleared his throat. “So, uh- you go to TCA?”
Rebecca nodded, “Yeah, you go to Treyton … High?” She cast her eyes around the place they were currently sitting in before quickly adding the word ‘high’ to it.
“Yeah, it's the-” he began before he was cut off by Mr. Anderson instructing them that they needed to continue with their tour to get back to the bus and outside the radiation zone before their oxygen ran out.
“If I can have your attention please both students from Treyton and from Tri-City Academy. If you would be so kind as to dispose of any garbage and line up in an orderly fashion with your helmets sealed.”
There was a flurry of action and Jacob had been about to turn to Rebecca to ask if they wanted to walk together but she had already vacated her seat and made her way towards the group queuing to exit and he lost sight of her. Probably doesn't want to be seen talking to me, he thought darkly as he chucked his leftovers in the garbage receptacle and pulled his helmet back on.
*
The rest of the tour proceeded without incident as they learned just how the residue radioactive material was removed from surfaces, and the effects it had on the human body. Jacob listened with rapt attention even as he hovered near the back of the group, gloved hands in the pocke
ts of his suit. Little did Jacob know, he was about to find out first hand just how wrong Mr. Stevenson was about the effects of radioactive material on the human body - so wrong indeed.
It was when they were on their way back to the buses that everything started to go from bad to worse. Everything was set to change the moment Tyler and his friends shoved Jacob bodily through an unfortunate open door and leaned against it to seal it shut.
Even as Jacob was tumbling down the slight incline Tyler was speaking up. “Hey, Mr. Stevenson? Where's that door lead?” He asked, pointing at the one he'd just shoved Jacob through.
Mr. Stevenson paused to eye the door and waved his hand at it. “That's just a maintenance tunnel to service the mechanical systems. Always flooded with radiation. Let's go.”
With that, and with Tyler smirking darkly, the classes moved on - unaware that they had just left Jacob resigned to a fate of unknown proportions.
Chapter 2: The Tunnel
As the rest of the students were loading onto the bus, Jacob was pounding uselessly against the sealed steel door; yelling into his broken microphone. “Someone, help!-” *snap* *crackle* “Ple- please!”
His thuds on the door and shouts started to get quieter, feebler, weaker. Soon, he had slid to his knees panting and staring down at the patch of dirty floor. It was a sudden incessant beeping that broke him out of his daze to rip the cuff off of his oxygen monitor.
